How many of us put a lot of effort into finding and hiring the right person, only to have them walk out the door too soon? Sometimes we make the mistake of working so hard to get people IN the front door, we forget to close the back door. During our August session, we’re going to spend an hour sharing and discussing some innovative ways to think about our employee's needs and how to make them want to stay.
Host: Sarah Gilliland--Human Resources Manager at Terracon Consultants, Inc.
As the oldest of 7 kids, Sarah Gilliland has been mediating and team-building with a diverse group of humans her entire life. For the last 17 years, roles in Human Resources have given her an opportunity to interact with non-profits, public and private entities with the central theme of giving teams a competitive edge by helping leaders foster healthy workplaces where people want to stay. At Terracon since 2017, she holds the role of HR Manager and involvement with DEI initiatives. This role gives her the opportunity to be a proactive, strategic partner with operations on HR initiatives with over 6,000 other employee-owners, helping to capture their imaginations of what a safer, better tomorrow could hold.
Sarah holds a degree in Communication with an emphasis in Organizational Development and is an accredited Inclusion Coach. Other certifications include Advanced Dispute Resolution and Toastmaster International Competent Communicator and Leadership awards. She thrives in bringing together people of different backgrounds, life experiences, education, and thinking styles to reach common goals. Sarah believes trust is the foundational principle to team success. Sarah elaborates, “when people trust each other, ideas, and information flow quickly and freely. People are open, creative, and supportive. They coordinate action effectively to get the right things done fast and well. That’s a journey I want to be a part of!”
