    Coffee and Convos:  HR Department of One

    HR Department of One: Not a task for the faint of heart! You have so many tasks to do, but very little time to get it all done. It can sometimes be overwhelming and isolating. However, it can also be extremely rewarding! We want to talk about the good and the bad about what you love or hate about being an HR Department of 1. 

    One of the best ways to help those who are in a HR Department of 1 is to help build a network of peers. Colorado Springs SHRM is a great opportunity to find and build that network. This coffee and convos is a great place to come and learn from your peers and also grow your network. We need HR Professionals who run departments of 1 and HR Professionals that work with teams. We all help each other gain perspectives and know how to handle situations. 

    During this conversation we are going to talk about some of the secret steps that HR Department of 1’s use to be successful such as managing time, how to stay up with compliance, using strategy, listening to employees, ways to develop and grow your skills, and stay motivated on the days it gets hard.

    Abbie Wentzel, Human Resource Manager

    Abbie is a Colorado Springs Native and is currently the Human Resources Manager for the Air Force Academy Foundation and The Association of Graduates. Abbie graduated from University of Colorado at Colorado Springs with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a minor in Finance. Abbie has also completed certificates in Strategic Human Resources Leadership and Conflict Resolution from Cornell University. Throughout Abbie’s career it is evident that she has a passion for people and nonprofit organizations. Abbie is able to bring those two passions together as she manages human resources as an HR Department of 1. 

    Eileen Martínez, SHRM-CP - Director of Operations/HR

    Mrs. Martinez is currently the Director of Operations/Human Resources at ITS, LLC.  In this role, she serves as a strategic member of the executive team and is focused on business operations, organizational development, employee culture, and the employee life cycle.  She directly aids the CEO in fostering and ensuring the strategic vision of ITS to ultimately deliver superior engineering services and solutions through strong commitment to integrity and excellence.  

    Prior to ITS, LLC, Eileen served as the Human Resources/Benefits Coordinator at Fried, Frank Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP in New York City. The foundation of her Human Resources experience at this prestigious fast paced law firm provided her with the knowledge, skills and abilities to be an effective HR leader.  Eileen regularly interfaced with executive leaders to build consensus and initiate productive change.
